The Happiness of Growing Plants: A Beginner’s Guide to Creating Your Own Green Zone
Plants have its own unique way of bringing a sense of color, vibrancy and positivity to your surroundings just as it has done to my own balcony since previously it looked as an empty space where there was nothing apart from cloth hanging rods. But after putting my set of plants in the balcony it gives a sense of completeness to me and now a days the second thing that I do after drinking my own glass of water is to fetch the thirst of the children in the balcony blooming in all grace possible.
That’s the whole idea behind पौधाGram, we believe that taking care of plants is not just something related to my own personal hobby
1. Start from Scratch by choosing the Correct Plants
If you’re someone who is just starting with gardening as a new hobby. Its best advisable to start with plants that are easy to be taken care of. Some such starter plants are as follows:
- Snake Plant
Known to be tough, resilient, and almost impossible to kill. It’s the most perfect choice for beginners.
- Aloe Vera Plant
If you’re a skin care and health care enthusiast just like me then Aloe vera is a great choice.
- Spider Plant
Known for its arching leaves and tiny pups, this plant is fun to have and also forgiving choice for beginners.
Its advisable to start with one or two plants and getting to know about their personalities. Before you know it, you’ll be ready to expand your green friends more.
2. Soil and Pots: The Duo that should not be underestimated
Every plant needs a solid foundation to survive and grow, which starts with the right soil and pot. Here’s how to get it correct:
- Little Bit of Soil Insight
Different soils have different soil preferences. Succulents admire well-draining soil, while tropical plants survive better in moisture retentive mixes. Always use high quality potting soil to give your plants the best start that they deserve.
- Choosing Pots with Perfection
Its better if you choose pots with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. If you’re feeling creative and want to repurpose old containers like mason jars, teacups, or even wooden crates. Just make sure to add drainage layers like pebbles or charcoal at the bottom.
Important Tip: Try to match your pots with the overall look and feel of your home for a more sophisticated and elegant ambience. Remember, that classy pot can turn a simple pot into a statement piece.
3. Watering: Not Too Much, Not Too Less
Watering is one most important aspects of plant care, but it’s also where many beginners stumble. Here’s a simple approach to keep your plants happier:
- Check Before You Water
Stick your finger about a inch into the soil. If it feels dry, its time to water. If its still damp, wait a day or two.
- Water Thoroughly
When you do water, make sure to soak the soil evenly until water drains out of the bottom of the pot. This encourages healthy root growth.
Important Tip: Every plant is different and its watering needs is also different. Take plenty of time to learn about your specific plants, and you will become a watering expert in no time.
4. Sun Light: The Reason Behind Happy Plants
Light is like food for plants as it’s essential for their growth and overall well-being. Here’s a quick guide to help you find the perfect spot for your green friends.
- Bright Indirect Light
Plants like monstera, fiddle leaf figs, and philodendrons live happily in bright, filtered light. It’s recommended to place them near a window with sheer curtains for utmost perfection.
- Dim Light
Snake plants and ZZ plants are heroes under dim light conditions, making them ideal for the shadowy corners of your balcony or even beside the sofa corner.
- Direct Sunlight
Succulents and cacti love basking in the sun. A sunny windowsill is their happiest spot to be located.
Its suggested to observe the direction of sunlight at your home throughout the day for better placement of your plants. A little observation leads to better positioning of your plant buddies.
5. Slowly Multiply: Grow Your Plant Family
One of the most exciting parts of plant care is multiplication or in better language propagation meaning creating new plants from the ones you already have. It’s like giving your green family a whole new birth in itself. Here’s how you should get started:
- Stem Cuttings
Clip a healthy stem just below a node where leaves generally grow and place it in water or soil. In a few weeks, you will witness roots forming.
- Leaf Cuttings
For succulents, gently remove a leaf and let it dry for a day or two before placing it on soil. Soon, tiny plants will emerge in no time.
Propagation is a beneficial way to expand your plants friend circle and also sharing plants with friends and family.
6. Plants as Décor: Bring Your Space a Different Glow
Plants are the natural decorators as they add a different kind of vibrancy to an empty space also bring more life to the corner by not only being the oxygen provider but also the mood booster.
Here are some creative ideas on how to add them into your home décor:
- Groupings
Arrange the plants more of a height in order and more on the basis of colours or textures thereby creating a dynamic and layered overview.
- Vertical Gardens
Turn a plain black wall into a breathing art display with wall-mounted planters.
- Terrariums
Create a miniature world in a glass container with moss, ferns, and small succulents.
Let your creativity outshine as you plan out and create your green haven. Plants have a way of making any space feel more alive and warmer always.

Every new leaf, flower, or a whole new plant friend is worth celebrating. Gardening is a journey filled with continuous learning and growth, both for you and your plants.
